Memorable awards and projects

Fulbright research scholar 2010-11

Recipient of the Fulbright grant in field of education to do research in India. My background in the arts and sciences supported my research work.

My family and personal experiences inspired my project. I was fortunate to study Bharatha Natyam under the guidance of the famed duo Dhananjayans and work at various Autism centers in Chennai, India. My research is "Effectiveness of Indian dance and movement therapy for autistic children".

Diploma in Bharatha Natyam
from Bharatha Kalanjali Academy of Bharatha Natyam Chennai, India in 2011

Ramya Raman took advanced training and received her Diploma in Bharatha Natyam from Bharatha Kalanjali Academy of Bharatha Nayam in Chennai, India under the guidance of the illustrious Gurus: Smt. Shantha and Sri. VP Dhanajayan. She received her diploma in Bharatha Natyam from Bharatha Klanjali Academy of Bharatha Natyam.

Raman has also trained in Nattuvangam and classical Carnatic music at the Kalapeetam institution under guidance of Guru Seetharam Sharma, who was faculty at the institution Kalakshetra in Chennai, India.

She has attended various workshops presented through ABHAI by esteemed dancers and Gurus such as Padma Subramaniam, Adyar K. Lakshman, Shobana, and Chitra Vishweshwaran as well as scholars like Sri Pappu Venugopal Rao.

OCH Research Scholar

Recipient of the prestigious 'Young Scholars' grant award from the Oregon Council for the Humanities, selected as one of the 12 high school students from the State of Oregon for conducting research in field of Humanities, receiving cash award of $2000.

I did a public presentation of the grant research paper through the Beaverton Arts Commission Arts & Lecture Series in February 2006.

My interest in my East Indian culture and heritage helped in selecting the topic of my research paper - "Indian culture of the ancient Gupta era -Analysis of classical Sanskrit literature".
