Performances
Ramya has performed over 150 concerts in solo, group productions at various prestigious performing art centers in the US and abroad since 1995. Having trained in the Kalakshetra style of Bharatha Natyam under Gurus Dr. Jayanthi Raman, Guru Sri Adyar Lakshman and the Dhananjayans; Raman draws upon the training and discipline imparted by the legendary teachers in her performances and in her teaching.
She has performed at Festivals such as the Northwest Folklife Festival, Newport Festival, PSU PIPFest, ArtQuake Festival etc. She has been featured artist in dance ballets performing at Seattle, Spokane, Portland, Louisiana, San Jose, Salt Lake City etc.
She has been featured dancer in lectures and workshops presented at schools, Universities and colleges in the US including the Spokane Falls Community College, Reed College, Portland Community College, Clackamas Community College, Louisiana State University etc.
From Modern dance, ballet, Brazilian dance and other world dances, she draws upon movements and experiences in her classical dance presentations. She has been assistant teacher and choreographer at the NATYA dance Academy in Portland, OR.
Raman enjoys public speeches and has presented talks on numerous topics. An avid writer, she has contributed to her college newsletter. Raman has done internship under renowned author/dance critic Martha Ullmann West to finesse her writing skills. She is a talented freelance writer who has written articles published in local newspapers.
Her interest to help children with special needs inspired her Fulbright project. She enjoys volunteering and finds time to perform for charitable causes like Association for India's Development-AID, Good Samaritan Ministries etc.
